Navaratna Sundal Recipe

Ingredients:

You can take any nine varieties of beans. I considered,

White Chana

Black Chana

Green Gram Dal

Soya Bean

Peanut

Cowpeas

Dried Green Peas

HorseGram

Rajma

1/2 cup – cooked together beans

Coconut – 3 tbsp

Red Chilli powder – 1/2 tsp

Salt – to taste

For grinding:

Chana Dal – 1 tbsp

Split Urad Dal – 1 tsp

Moong Dal – 1 tsp

Red Chillies – 1

For tempering:

Oil – 1 tsp

Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp

Split Urad Dal – 1/2 tsp

Curry leaves – few fresh ones

Red Chilli – 1

Asafoetida – sufficient amount

Method:

–Soak all the bean varieties overnight. Since each variety takes its own cooking time, you need to categorise them, cook them seperate and keep aside.Also, you can add limited salt while cooking the beans.

–In a pan dry roast the ingredients listed under ‘for grinding’ till they turn brown and then grind it to a coarse powder,Set aside.

–Now heat oil – add the items listed under ‘ For tempering’ let it crackle.Then add cooked mixed beans give a quick saute,adjust salt then add coconut and mix well.

–Your Sundal is now ready to be served!!
