Maa Durga demonstrated herself in form of Kaalratri to demolish the demons, negative spirits and evils. The appearance of Maa Durga in the form of Goddess Kaalratri is the most fiercest form. However, she is kind hearted to her devotees and grants their wishes. She is also known as “Maa Kali”
Maa Kaalratri has dark complexion and her appearance is extremely frightful. She has three large red eyes, open red tongue, and sobre on hand that demolish devils and monsters. Her long black hair is scattered on her back. Donkey is her vahana. The upper left hand holds a sobre and her lower left hand holds thorn of iron. The two right hands with “giving” and “protecting” mudras. It is said that her three eyes radiates lightning and her rosary shines like a moon.
Flames appear through her nostrils when she inhales or exhales.
As per hindu mythology, there is one of a short note on why and how the birth of Maa Kaali took place:
Once there were two demons called Shumbha and Nishumbha. With all their evil powers they were attacking places and destroying their whereabouts. One day they both invaded devaloka and defeated the demigods. Indra the ruler of the Devaloka and all other demigods wanted were frightened and didn’t know what to do. They all wanted to put an end to this evil attack. So they all went to The Himalayas for getting help. Their they prayed to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Goddess Parvati got furious and wanted to end this. So she disguised herself and settled to demolish the demons. The disguised form of Parvati Devi is called Chandi or Ambika. In the battlefield, the demons Shumbha and Nishumbha sent Chanda-Munda representating them to fight against Maa Chandi.
Goddess created a dark goddess Kali or Kaalratri to kill Chanda-Munda. Kali killed Chanda and Munda, hence acquiring the name Chamunda. And then, another demon named Rakhtbeej arrived, who had the boon that if a drop of blood of him fell on the floor then a Rakhtbeej would be created from that blood drop. So, When Kali attacked him, the number of blood droplets falling on ground then that many number of Rakhtbeej would be created.
So, Maa Kaali thoughfully took an idea. Whenever, Maa kaali attacked the demon Rakhtbeej and the blood came out, she would drink the blood to prevent it from falling down to the floor. Thereby there was no chance of blood dropping to the ground. Thus Kali Maa killed the demon Raktabeej and made it easy for Goddess Chandi to defeat the demons Shumbha and Nishumbha. At last both the demons were killed and the above was given back to Indra and the demigods. They lived happily and safely.
Lets all worship Maa Kali to safe us from all evils and make us lead a happy life…
